  1. Bringing the “basics”

Mecca can get awfully crowded in any season of the year, most particularly during between the “peak” months during the Haj and Ramadan season. Because of this, it has to be said that you really have to prepare yourself for the worst when visiting there because, we’re telling you now, comfort is the last thing you would be getting when you’re visiting Mecca.

So, how can you be able to do so, then? Well, for one, you really have to bring everything you would expect during travelling: OTC medicines, water canteen, a 110-220 volts power adapter and, yes, even power bars. Why the focus on these items, though? Well, because for one, you have to stay in a single “spot” where you’ll have to do your prayers and reflections for a very long time. So, as much as possible, you really have to have everything with your person when have already picked out your “spot”. Of course, the next thing you should probably think about is how you can get comfortable whilst doing so, which is why this item below should be the next on your list…

  1. Erecting a “portable” spot

Mecca is not exactly a tourist destination per se as it is about a place where people can gather to express their faith en masse. And because you will be one of those people, then that also means should prepare yourself to spend a whole day outdoors doing so.

But of course, that doesn’t mean you have to completely expose yourself to the elements whilst you’re at it; if anything, this is why bringing along mats, or even tents, is highly recommended for this purpose, since it at least allows you the option of sitting on the ground directly without having to worry about getting your robes or clothes dirty.

Whilst you’re at it, it’s recommended that you have an ID with you at all times since your passport will be held for the duration of your stay there by your group guide. You know, just to be on the safe side.

  1. Reminding yourself why you’re there in the first place

Of course, going to Mecca is constituted as a “vacation” these days. However, the case can be said for the fact that you also have to remind yourself that you’re not there for a vacation; Mecca is a place for spiritual renewal, and you should treat it as such. And really, with that said, if you’re going to bring anything, it should be the stuff that you’ll only need to survive and nothing more than that: food, clothing, and shelter (in the form of a mat or a tent, most likely)… and yes, a “non-fancy” mobile phone, too, if possible.
